46 By the Creek is ideally placed to enjoy all that Faversham has to offer, on foot.

Put on your walking shoes and follow the river to the Swale estuary, or cross the fields and enjoy a pint at C17th Shipwright’s Arms while watching the tide coming in.

Faversham itself has plenty to offer visitors. A former Mediaeval port, it is an attractive market town boasting historic buildings and cobbled streets. Faversham is proud of its history, much of which is part of life for residents and visitors today, for example its market acknowledged in the Domesday Book and still trading, or pubs such as The Bear Inn, the Anchor, and The Shipwrights Arms dating back to 1700s.

Take a tour around Shepherd Neame Brewery, reputedly Britain’s oldest, the draw for the many hop-pickers filling trains from London down to Kent for their annual ‘holiday’. Today Faversham Hop Festival (first weekend in September) is a highlight of the calendar, filling the town with music, Morris groups and revellers.

Fancy a film? The mock-Tudor Royal Cinema shows new releases in a setting that is reminiscent of the golden age of cinema. For around a fiver.

Faversham Pools, a few minutes’ walk from 46, offers a choice of swimming with a 25m indoor pool and jacuzzi as well as 33m outdoor pool with diving boards. There is also a lawned area to dry off in the sunshine.  If the swim leaves you feeling peckish, there is a café on site. Or try one of the many cafes, pubs etc. nearby.

Stroll down Abbey Street with its timber framed old buildings leading to Standard Quay, former port now a vibrant area boasting antiques and curios, provisions from local butcher, fishmonger etc. alongside cafes, pizzeria and cocktail bar.

Further afield, Faversham is well-positioned for exploring the Kent coast, visiting nature reserves, walking the Kent Downs, or exploring historic towns and villages. And at the end of a busy (or not) day, a welcoming home-from-home awaits.
